We developed a new mobile application for retail banking customers. The client’s previous digital banking solution was based on a third-party platform with limited functionality. Users experienced availability issues, while updates were released less frequently than needed and depended on the external vendor. The goal was to create a modern digital banking solution that would be secure, fast, stable, visually appealing, and easier for the client to manage independently.
The client needed a new mobile banking application for iOS and Android that would meet modern digital banking standards and reduce dependence on an external vendor. The new solution had to provide higher availability, improved performance, greater stability, and expanded functionality, while also allowing the client to retain process ownership and strengthen internal expertise.
Working closely with the client’s in-house team, we developed a new mobile application for iOS and Android and built a new backend based on a microservices architecture. This approach made the platform more flexible, scalable, and easier to maintain.
Throughout the project, we focused on several key priorities: customer-centric design, performance, stability, and alignment with the client’s long-term business strategy. To support these goals, we helped improve development and delivery processes, introduced new product discovery practices, and worked on the platform architecture to ensure it could evolve over time.
We also implemented support for multiple app versions, improved system stability and response speed, and reduced the load on the client’s internal banking systems. Additional efforts included strengthening integration between the mobile app and backend services, improving release management, and creating a foundation for continuous feature delivery.
The new application included simplified authentication, instant money transfers, a convenient transaction history, payments for various services, search for taxes and fines, and clearer visibility into account and card balances. For safer use in public places, users were also given the option to hide sensitive financial information on the screen.
The beta version of the new mobile banking app was released in April 2020, and customers were able to download the app and start using its features immediately. Over time, the application became the client’s primary mobile banking platform.
The project resulted in a powerful, flexible, and scalable digital banking platform that continues to evolve with the business and its customers. Compared with the previous solution, the new app offered better availability, faster performance, more frequent updates, and a stronger technological foundation for future growth. Just as importantly, the client gained more control over digital product development and preserved critical expertise within the organization.
